Our rescue vessels

Ballina’s primary rescue vessel is a Naiad 10m built by Yamba Welding and Engineering in 2013 in their Yamba factory. BA30 has an operating limit of 30 nautical miles from the coast with 2C Survey. It is powered by two 250hp Suzuki outboard engines with a top speed of about 40kts / 75km/h. With a fuel capacity of 800 lt. and has a cruising range of approx. 350nm / 650km. BA30 if fitted with marine VHF, AIS, Radio Direction Finder, FLIR (thermal imaging camera) and Raymarine satellite navigation system.

Ballina’s inshore rescue vessel is a RHIB by Cobia Boats in Huskisson NSW. Length of 6.35m and the rigid hull is fibreglass reinforced plastic GRP with inflatable sponsons. Powered by two 90hp Suzuki outboard engines with a top speed of about 35kts / 65km/h. This is an ideal rescue vessel for the Fishery Creek canal and North Creek with four bridges two of which have a clearance of 4m. It is 2C Survey and can operate out to 3nm from the coast.

The Ballina Jetboat has been saving lives on the water since 1970 operating from Surf Life Saving Ballina. In 2023 it transitioned over to Marine Rescue Ballina and was put into 2C Survey. This is an ideal rescue vessel for Ballina Bar and surf beaches along the coast. It’s unique hull design by Ross Trease, modified from an earlier vessel by Roger Mutimer. BA21 is 5.91m in length and constructed by Byron Bay Marine of fibreglass reinforced plastic GRP. She is powered by a Yanmar 240hp turbo charged diesel engine driving a Doen Jet unit.
