Join Your Local Marine Rescue Radio Club
Joining the Radio Club at your local Marine Rescue NSW unit is a practical way to support the volunteers who provide vital emergency services on the waterways of New South Wales. As a not-for-profit organisation, Marine Rescue relies heavily on community support and fundraising to maintain vessels, equipment and training for its volunteer crews and radio operators.
An annual Radio Club subscription makes a valuable contribution to this work. The funds raised assist local units in maintaining their rescue capability and ensuring that help is available to boaters when it is needed.
As a member of the Radio Club, you will be issued with a unique Marine Rescue radio call sign. This short identifier makes communication quicker and clearer when using your marine radio. It is particularly useful when logging on or off with a Marine Rescue base or when conducting a radio check before heading out to sea.
Your details will already be recorded in the Marine Rescue system, allowing radio operators to quickly identify you and your vessel when you make contact.
When you complete the membership application form, your personal and vessel details are entered into the Marine Rescue database. This allows radio operators to immediately access important information about you and your boat if assistance is ever required.
Each member is allocated an BA call sign, for example BA123. This number is issued solely to you and remains the same for as long as your membership continues, even if you change vessels in the future.
Membership also makes the setting up the Marine Rescue smartphone app simpler and faster.
As an added benefit, we will also provide details of how you can use your phone to access the Gizmo weather station on the roof of the Radio Tower and the Wave Rider Bouy.
